L. rhamnosus protects by coating the mucous and preventing toxins from reaching the blood. It can even result in better-smelling breath. This probiotic strain survives temperature extremes and is resistant to bile salts and stomach acid. As a result, it is hardier and keeps better without refrigeration. Compared to L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus is is 8 to 10 times more prolific, has better control over putrfactive microbes, and is more effective at inhibiting disease-causing pathogens.
FOS (Fructooligosaccharides) are short-chained indigestible sugars found in chicory. They feed on and increase the amount of healthy bacteria in the colon. Because they are indigestible, they pass through the small intestine to the colon intact, where friendly bacteria feed on them and multiply. FOS is often referred to as a "prebiotic", helping to keep healthy amounts of friendly bacteria in the digestive tract.
