Vitex agnus castus (also called Chasteberry) has been used for 2,500 years to treat menstrual irregularities, ranging from PMS to menopause.
Vitex extract has been extensively studied in Europe, particularly Germany, where it has been used since the 1950's. Clinical studies show that the extract reduces headaches, breast tenderness, bloating, fatigue, cravings for sweets, feelings of anxiety and irritability, as well as depression and mood swings.
