A tocotrienol is a member of the vitamin E family that has three double bonds within the molecule. These bonds give tocotrienols greater fluidity, so that they are more easily incorporated into cell membranes. Because of this, delta-tocotrienol may prove very valuable in protecting interior cell membranes.
Studies have shown that gamma and delta-tocotrienols can inhibit the manufacture of cholesterol within the liver. This happens by inhibiting the liver enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, the same enzyme that is inhibited by statin drugs and red yeast rice.
